    Fall Follies

    October 1, 2014

We all know warm, sunny days are numbered, so many of us are trying to get outside as much as we can, while we still can. There are some things to remember that will help keep everyone safe.

    Hydration Station
Even with dropping temperatures, you need to make sure your pet drinks enough water. Heated bowls come in all sizes and provide ice-free refreshment well into the winter. A heated pet bed or heating pads will make your dog house or even the cat's favourite spot inside nice and cozy.

    Magic Mushrooms
In the fall, mushrooms are abundant in our forests and while the majority are not toxic, a small percentage are and can cause life-threatening reactions when eaten by your pet. The best practice is to keep pets away from mushrooms, but if you see them consuming them, keep a close eye and call your veterinarian immediately if you see an adverse reaction.

    Ratty Rodents
During this time of year, some people are turning to rodenticides to deter mice, rats and other rodents seeking shelter in homes, garages, sheds and other buildings. These products are highly toxic and can be fatal to animals if ingested. Make sure to keep an eye on your pets when they are exploring areas where they might be exposed. Ultrasonic pest repellents can be a safe alternative.
